ChromeOS and ChromiumOS builds
ChromiumOS is the open-source operating system Google's ChromeOS is built from. Unlike the browser, there is no continuously published binary you can simply download, so these projects fill the gap.
These are whole operating systems, not browsers. If you only want the browser, you want Chromium for Linux instead.
Projects worth knowing
-
ArnoldTheBat buildsLong-running special builds for generic PC hardware
Alex313031 ChromeOS-LinuxChromiumOS images with extra hardware support
FydeOSA polished ChromiumOS derivative, partly commercial
BrunchRuns official ChromeOS recovery images on ordinary PCs
ChromeOS FlexGoogle's own supported build for old PCs and Macs
Which one
If you want something supported that simply works, use ChromeOS Flex, which is Google's own product and gets real updates. Choose Brunch if you specifically need the Play Store and Android app support, since it runs genuine ChromeOS images. The community ChromiumOS builds are the right pick when you want the fully open-source system and are comfortable troubleshooting hardware support yourself.
These projects publish on their own schedules rather than through an API, so this page links to each project rather than tracking individual image versions.
